Andrea Bowring BSc (Hons) Registered LD Nurse

 Andrea is a learning disability nurse with over 20 years experience. Andrea has considerable experience in managing staff teams and projects involving individuals whose behaviour may challenge. Andrea specialises in implementing Positive Behaviour Support in organisations. Andrea's teams have worked with individuals who have been difficult to place due to considerable behaviours of concern. Andrea has also managed projects that have involved moving individuals from institutional settings to community placements. Andrea has numerous successes in successfully integrating individuals in community projects, reducing behaviours of concern, implementing active support, reducing restrictive practices and improving quality of life. Andrea is skilled at implementing data monitoring systems. Andrea has a particular focus on positive risk taking and the systems, paperwork, training and MDT working that make this safe and robust. As a result, Andrea has extensive experience of supporting organisations to improve the quality of life of people they support. Andrea is an experienced trainer delivering safeguarding and LD awareness training. Andrea is a QCF assessor and has presented her work at several conferences. Andrea is currently Lead Quality and safety Manager, Government of Jersey, and British Institute of Learning Disabilities ACT assessor which involves assessing and scrutinising evidence, observing teaching and writing reports to ensure physical skills training is of the highest quality. Andrea was also involved in the facilitation of co-produced Oliver McGowan mandatory learning disability and autism training. Andrea has presented at many conferences including the 2019 International PBS Conference, and 2021 NHS Benchmarking conference. 

Andrea was a finalist in the Royal College of Nursing Nurse Awards 2018 for her work in implementing PBS system wide, reducing behaviours of concern, reducing restrictive practices and improving quality of life of the individuals Andrea's team's support.
